The
aim of this page is to increase the awareness of a disease
inherited by many, known by virtually none! Only statistical
data and facts have been used throughout. Hopefully help to
prevent all the lies and abuse that has been spread about Michael
Jackson,
more often than not, by
people who know nothing about him, or disease itself!

During the time "Bad"
was released (around 1986) the world started to realize that
Michael Jackson's skin completion was getting paler, and paler,
until he eventually appeared white.
Stories circulated about the reason behind this gradual change.
Some people believed that it was due to an accident he had whilst
filming an international commercial for PEPSI, others thought he
simply did not like to be black and so started having surgery to
change his skin colour.
For years the tabloids, and press
have
released FALSE stories and information about
the change in Michael's skin colour, rather
than
doing some real research, in the field of Medicine!
ALL
of the stories printed in the press are completely FALSE!!!
As you read on you will learn of the reasons for this change,
along with answers to many questions you may have, including the
large use of surgical masks, and umbrellas in Michael's outings.
- VITILIGO:
is an illness and like albinism, it is hereditary (genetic)
and unfortunately has no cure as yet. Albinism is a
compete lack of the natural pigment that gives us our skin
colour. Our skin tone is produced underneath the skin by
special cells called "melanocytes". Melanin
has the ability and is responsible for protecting us from the
environment radiation of the sun (UV rays, etc ...especially
UV rays A and B)
- MELANIN:
(from Greek mélas, mélanos, black)
Black pigment from skin cells, hair, eyes... that contributes
to the colour of the skin and hair.
The melanin of the skin cells and eyes protects the body and
the eyes, respectively, from the hurtful effect of the
environment short-wave radiation. The lack of the melanin
produces *albinism*. The melanin is located mainly under
the skin cells (melanocytes). Due to the effect of the MSH
hormone, the synthesis of the melanin is done.
- MELANOCYTES:
(from melano- and the Greek term kytos, cell)
Pigmented cell of ectoderm origin full of melanin that is
located under the skin. It has usually a starry shape and
presents different types of pigments, mainly melanin.
VITILIGO - consists of the
loss of natural pigment from our skin.
There are two kinds of the Vitiligo
illness, 1: It can be located on specific 'zones'
on the body. e.g. hands, legs, face, arms. Which is
more common. OR 2: It can be
extended all over the body, then it is known as "Universal
Vitiligo", which is the type Michael suffers.
Here are some examples of the loss in pigment due to the Vitiligo
disease, starting most commonly on the hands: (Please note
these pictures are NOT of Michael Jackson)
Here the vitiligo has spread, making the hands look like they have
brown blotches on them, when in fact they are just very large
white ones.

persons arms, the Vitiligo has widely spread here.
The loss of melanin is not a sudden
loss, it takes many years, and can also depend on the age of the
sufferer. When the white little spots start to appear,
usually on the hands first. It means that the melanocytes of
the body's concrete zone give up producing melanin. As the
melanocytes from nearby zones give up working, these patches
become bigger and bigger.
So now if you stop and think about Michael Jackson, who has this
problem all over his body, u can clearly see how the change
came about. Small white patches appearing on his hands,
face, chest, back and legs began to grow faster, and became more
visible. Now at the age, of 43 it is not possible to see
small white blotches (where there is no pigment being produced),
but really, really small black ones (where the skin still produces
pigment).
So to even out this somewhat dotty appearance, he makes up,
(the reason Michael appears to wear so much make-up).
In
the "They Don't Care About Us" (Rio version)
Video, u can clearly see some black patches, where the
melanin in his skin still produces the pigment.
Due to his age (showing that the disease has spread over
his whole body), his appearance is now that of a white
American. The "appearance" of his
completion, doesn't mean he is not a black American.

and
always will be - genetically
speaking. He may "appear"
white, because of the lack of melanin (which produces the
pigment) in his skin, but he is a Black American and
that cannot ever be changed. |

In

remains of his original colour can be seen.
Obviously he avoids making them visible, but they can
clearly be seen during the Rio version of the "They
Don't Care About Us" video as well as during "The
Making Of Ghosts" too - on Michael's jaw and
forehead. |
If
you can try and imagine the colour changing process, you must
understand why Michael makes-up. For Michael the process has
been so fast since Thriller, through to Dangerous where he appears
to be almost 90% with out pigment, and he has done something about
it (made-up). This was another idiotic and totally false
theme picked up by the tabloids, that the change was through the
"abusive" use of make up, and as you can clearly see is
totally untrue.
Unfortunately at the moment vitiligo
cannot be healed/cured, however quite recent research shows that
it may be in the future. The only treatment that exists is
"H vitamin", but we are not sure of the results it has
on the patches just yet. The real solution would be *reaching* the
genes where the expression of the skin colour is, and *retouching*
them, so that "melanocytes" would start producing
melanin again (all we are, is in our genetic information).
The last progression in the skin illness' field is with the
controlled exposition to U.V.A. rays under the prescription of a
doctor. It is called "Photochymetherapy" and it
has to be quantified with UV lamps by a professional. The
results with Vitiligo are successful, and they have succeeded
bringing "melanin" to 50% and 80% of the affected zones
with this therapy.
It is not yet clear whether the treatment named above, has the
same affect on "Universal Vitiligo" (Michael's type) and
it is also not clear whether it can be healed after the patches
have started to grow. It is almost 100% certain that Michael
Jackson will never return to his original black colour again, and
his condition will get worse as the years pass, for the simple
reason that:
Michael Jackson is
totally ALLERGIC to the SUN!
This explains why he wears the surgical masks, and often has
umbrellas about with him
- to shield him from the suns rays.
We are not sure whether his children
have inherited vitiligo, as they have not been clearly
photographed, nor are they old enough to have started to develop
the blotches seen in the pictures above, however it is a
possibility. Even if they do have the illness now, it may
not show until years later, just like Michael himself. It
really depends on a lot of things, take Michael's family for
example, the ones who had it were LaToya and Michael, Janet and
the rest of brothers like Rebbie, Tito, Jackie, Jermaine etc... no
one suffered it. It's something genetic, it depends
on the alleles of the chromosomes, it's something
that usually happens "at random" and up till now
scientists still haven't discovered what causes it.
